About Us
The IHS Up-Cycle manufacturing company was started by Georgiana Tessa Charlemagne. Miss Charlemagne has an associates degree in fashion from the Kingsborough Community college and bachelors of Science degree in Manufacturing/Production Management from the Fashion Institute of Technology.
The IHS company started the manufacturing of masks because of the need to protect close friends and families, as well as the most vulnerable people in society, who could not afford a mask. At the beginning of the pandemic, my cousin, who is a nurse for 40 years, lamented in our phone calls conversation, saying: "they are sending me into battle everyday without a gun." Another friend, who needed a head covering said she worked in direct contact with COVID-19 patients on a daily basis. Some nuns, who run a soup kitchen, feeding 100 people, the people they served had no face masks. A friend needed 15 masks for a group of elderly people. I was overwhelmed with concern for our heroes on the front line of this pandemic battle. I decided to manufacture some masks for my cousin, for nurses, nuns, the elderly, and the homeless.
IHS is committed to helping reduce the carbon footprint by using recyclable or upcycled textile materials and hardware (zippers, buttons) in the manufacturing line that will enter the landfill. The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of the annual carbon footprint just for shipping but in terms of manufacturing of cotton, we deplete water sources. In the production of cotton, it takes 20,000 liters of water to produce one kilogram or 2.2 pounds of cotton . So by using upcycled fabric which would have ended up at the landfill, we are doing our part in saving the environment
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
